Birds of Puerto Rico
In Puerto Rico, we have 19 endemic bird species. An endemic species is one that is only found on a specific island or a limited group of islands and is not naturally found anywhere else in the world. These bird species are a significant part of Puerto Rico’s unique biodiversity, underscoring the importance of preserving the island’s diverse ecosystems and protecting these species from the threat of extinction.
